FEGG - G5 - Cece - Chapter 1

It all started off with a beautiful, sunny day. It was one month before my brother should begin school.
I was in fifth grade.

I've always wondered how my life would have been if nothing of that would have happened.
I maybe could have met my mother again...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 "OH MY... DAD?! CECE!!!!"

I could hear my brother scream for me. I was doing my homework, it was about an hour ago I came home from school.

"What now?" I asked from the kitchen table.

Suddenly I heard voices from the bedroom. My fathers voice, he sounded terrified, and someone elses voice. That voice was so weird... It sounded hollow...

 Jeffery came running.

"I saw... dad... and a GREEN thing... KISSING in the bedroom!" he said and I could see tears in his eyes.

I stared at him. "You saw WHAT?"

Dad came running after Jeffery. I saw something green rush out the door.

"No no no no!" my father screamed. "It's not what you think! Kids, you've just read too much stupid stuff, your brother imagines!"

I stared at my father.
I knew something fishy had been going on for a few weeks. Dad was always late home from work, and mom work in the evenings and at nighttime. But I never wanted to think about something like this.

One of my classmates in school, has a mother who was cheating on his father.

"WHAT?" I screamed. "Daddy... Don't you love MOM?"

"Yes, yes, of course I do!" dad said. "That's what I said for a few seconds ago, your brother imagines!"

"No I don't!" Jeffery cried. "You was kissing that..."

"If you could just shut up!" dad cut him off. "If you never had walked into our bedroom, we wouldn't have to fight now! What were you doing in our bedroom by the way?! There's nothing for you to do there!"

Jeffery didn't answer. Tears were rolling down his cheeks and he stared at dad with big eyes.

 Dad saw his terrified face.

"No no no, I didn't mean to... I'm sorry. We can forget about this right?"

I put myself in again. "Dad! What are you doing!?" I shouted and I felt the tears burning in my eyes now too.

 Dad ignored me.

"Hey boy, listen. We can forget about this, okay? Nothing never happened. You didn't see anything, and I didn't do anything wrong. Don't listen to your sister. She's just been reading too much comedy, she can't handle this serious situation."

"WHAT?!" I screamed in the background.

"I won't do what you say to me!" Jeffery cried.

I don't really know exactly what happened then. But I think dad slapped Jeffery in the face. Not hard, because he didn't bleed, but then a long silence broke out.

Nothing happened.

Jeffery was holding his hand for his cheek and he was staring at my dad's hand who he held in the air.
I didn't breath or anything. I didn't dare.

At last, Jeffery started crying loud and he ran off to our bedroom. Dad was just standing on the same spot and staring out in the air.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was 9 PM. I was doing my homework and Jeffery was still in our room.

Suddenly dad sat down opposite to me.

"Sweetie... I'm sorry...." he said.

"Don't say that to me, say that to mom!" I said.

"You know you MUST tell her when she gets home, right?!"

He nodded.

Barry

I couldn't sleep. Sapphire should get home around 4AM.

I felt so bad. And I didn't have any excuse. What would happen now? The kids? They hated me now. Especially Jeffery. No one had ever hit him before. He was so young.

And Cece. Poor Cece, she always tried to be the responsible one when their mother wasn't around. Since Sapphire started working on the evenings, Cece was the one who took care of Jeffery, and she cleaned home.

What would happen now? What if I never got to see the kids again? Or Sapphire, what would she say?

I watched TV til Sapphire got home.

Finally I heard the door open.

"Barry? Why are you awake?" I could hear Sapphire ask.

My heart was racing when I saw her.

I don't know it that was because of love or fear for her reaction.

"I..." I began.

She looked at me and smiled. I could see in her eyes how much she loved me. She looked so happy. She had her dream job, two wonderful kids, she live in a beautiful house in a cozy city and she has an amazing husband. She believed.

I rose up and turned off the TV. "I missed you."

"Aww Barry, I missed you too!" she said and gave me a hug.

My heart froze for a second. I felt so numb in her arms. And for a minute I didn't know what to do.

My biggest question was... WHY the crap did I say I had missed her?!

But then my heart took all control again and I kissed her.

While my brain why shouting "why?! why?! why?!" over and over again, I told her I loved her.

She said she loved me too and that I was the greatest man she could ever have.

Oh God, I wasn't a great man. I was horrible.
